Colorado High Adventure Trip - 2003
The trip included 19 scouts and 6 leaders. The destination was Colorado. Due to the long drive, the first evening was spent in New Mexico at Clayton
Lake. The troop made a quick camp, ate a good meal and visited dinosaur tracks by the lake. The next day we traveled to South Fork, Colorado where we spent a few days fishing, hiking and enjoying the cool mountain air. A service project for our host included laying sod in his yard. The scouts did the entire yard in 20 minutes. There was plenty of fishing time and some scouts earning the Fly Fishing merit badge while catching trout in the South Fork and Rio Grande rivers. We then broke camp and traveled to Buena Vista, Colorado. There we set camp and met with Wilderness Aware Rafting. The next full day was spent rafting the Arkansas River and earning the White Water merit badge. Rafting was definitly the highlight of the trip and the boys and leaders had a great time. The next morning we set out for Texas. Arriving in Amarillo, the troop ate at the Big Texan and won the record for the most people sitting in the big rocker. Camp that night was at Palo Duro Canyon State Park where the troop was forced to get back into the Texas summer heat. The next morning was travel to home sweet home.
