Started in January 1998, Burnout was originally named Odd As We Wanna be. The band consisted of two members, Jon Young and Clayton Williams. Dylan Masells joined the band, shortly before Clayton left the band. In April, a bass player, Ashley Boyd, and drummer, Clay Nash joined the band. Due to his hectic work schedule, Ashley was unable to continue playing for the band. Cody Meador filled in for Ashley during a practice and was soon adopted to the band.
On September 26, 1998, Burnout performed at Holiday Inn for a birthday party. They had hired an inexperienced DJ who kept cutting us off.
On October 31, 1998 Burnout threw up a neat
Halloween concert at a local mall. This was their first big show, they put it all
together themselves. Two other groups played at the concert. Current members
of Affliction, Ryan Lystad and Allen Pingleton played U2
songs with drummer, Steve Elkins. Ryan Day and John Hilben did covers for Misfits
and The Melvins.

January 9th at the old Circle J
ballroom (now Club 21), Affliction and Burnout performed in front of 200
people. This concert kicked butt. It was the start of their playing career.
