The Cowan cabin was built by the Isaac Cowan family to fulfill the requirements of the Homestead Act. The cabin was donated to the museum by E.L. Rhoades, Jr. It originally stood on the banks of Richardson Creek, near Bluff Dale in the Paluxy River Valley.
