The Carmack cabin was built by John Wesley Carmack for his wife Susan. The building originally stood in the Corinth Community three miles from Stephenville, in Erath County on the old Fort Griffin Road. John and Susan and their eight children all lived in this cabin. The children slept upstairs in the loft. The cabin features lookout holes in the walls. When it was built there were still hostile Comanche and Kiowa in Erath County. The building was donated by G.K. Lewallen to the museum. Three children of the Reverend C.F. Carmack financed the restoration. |
