Facts About Abuse

• Mental and Emotional Abuse is no less damaging than physical abuse and the long-term effects may be greater.

• Family violence occurs among all races, ages, and religions.  It happens to people of all educational and income levels.

• Being told repeatedly that we are worthless and undesirable can destroy self-esteem and cause a person to live up to the label.

• A battering incident is rarely an isolated occurrence.  It usually recurs frequently and escalates in severity over time.

• Sexual Assault to any child or adult is a CRIME.
